Esenboğa International Airport - Turkish: Ankara Esenboğa Havalimanı is an international airport located 28 kilometers or 17 miles northeast of Ankara - the capital of the Republic of Turkey. It has been in operation since 1955. The name of the airport comes from the village of Esenboğa, which literally means "healthy bull". During 2009 Esenboğa International Airport served 6,085,126 passengers - 4,987,983 of which were domestic passengers. It ranked 5th in terms of total passenger traffic, 2nd in terms of domestic traffic and 7th in terms of international traffic among airports in Turkey. The airport is located northeast of Ankara and is connected with Kızılay (the city center) and the Ankara Intercity Bus Terminal - Turkish: Ankara Şehirlerarası Terminal İşletmesi or AŞTİ by EGO city bus number 442 from 6 am to 11pm, by the Havaş bus line or by Taxi. The road between Esenboğa International Airport and the Ankara ring road was expanded during the summer of 2006, decreasing the driving time between the city center and the airport considerably. In the Ankara Esenboğa Airport International Terminal there are 6 Duty Free stores operated by ATÜ. Meeting the needs of departing passengers are the main Duty Free Store located in the departures terminal and the Best Buy Store - where the most popular goods can be found. A Duty Free store is located at the arrivals terminal providing shopping services to incoming passengers. The Atasay, D&R and Setur stores situated in the departures terminal, also operate under ATÜ.
Ankara Esenboğa Airport operated by TAV Airports Holding was given an award for being the best airport in the 5-10 million passenger capacity category in a competition organized by the Airports Council International (ACI) - EUROPE. Esenboğa Airport is the only airport in Turkey to combine domestic and international terminals under a single roof. The airport was evaluated by the criteria of environmental awareness, quality, security, commercial areas, operational flow, and ability. The airport excels in all the keys areas of operations, however the judges singled it out for its work in the area of environmental innovation - securing an incredible 25% energy savings from its recycling of exhaust gases to power its air conditioning plants. Ankara Esenboğa Airport came into service on the 13th of October in 2006 in an official ceremony which included Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Being the most contemporary airport in Europe, EsenboÄŸa Airport has the latest technology in baggage systems which enable passengers to have their luggage within three minutes. The original architectural design of the terminal gives passengers easy access within the terminal and a large and spacious perspective from which to view the entire terminal from all points within the terminal. Access between domestic and international terminals is currently via golf carts in service between the domestic and international terminals for passenger transfer. Naturally, the elderly and disabled individuals always have priority.
Banking and Foreign Exchange transactions can be accomplished at either Artı Döviz in the international terminal departures level landside and in the international terminal arrivals level airside. Or at Garanti Bank open between 09:00 and 23:00 hours at the arrivals level. There is shoeshine shop by the domestic Departures C Gate offering polishing and shining services. Souvenir shops are located in both domestic and international terminals, as well as a bookshop airside on international departures and landside domestic departures levels offering a variety of local and foreign publications. There is a hairsalon at the Ankara Esenboğa Airport which is open 24 hours a day and offers all hairdressing services for both male and female passengers. The food concession at Ankara Esenboğa Airport operated by BTA Catering. With a team of 1,250 employees of which seventy percent have either a college or bachelors degree. These employees are trained in tourism and hospitality management as well as in food and beverage services. All are chosen on their professional competency and proficiency to provide world class food and beverage services at Turkey's gateway to the world. Flags World of Food Restaurant - This restaurant offers a variety of Italian style fresh pasta dishes, kebab selections including meat and chicken doner, and a large variety of grilled meats and pitas and Turkish cuisine, with four main meal selections a day and a very wide variety of olive oil dishes, appetizers and desserts. The restaurant has a seating capacity of 280 and is open 24 hours a day, serving daily meals between 11.00 - 22.00 and breakfast between 22.00 - 11.00.
Burger King - Burger King, one of the major international fast-food chains which is located on the Arrivals Mezzanine level and operates under BTA.
Efes Beer Port - Situated on the left just after passport checkpoint it is evocative of English pubs and is open 24 hours a day. The restaurant has a seating capacity of approximately 80 and it offers a wide variety of light snacks, salads and refreshments in an exclusive and pleasant environment.
Sky Restaurant - The Sky Restaurant is where one can find food suitable to all tastes and is located in the common area on the domestic and international departures level.
The North Shields Pub - A pub where passengers can relax while watching aircraft take off enjoying a coffee or drinking a chilled beer. The North Shields Pub is located in the common area on the domestic and international departures level. Decorated in a distinctive English style, The North Shields Pub is open between 08.00 - 22.30. The North Shields Pub not only offers a wide variety of drink and food selections, but watch television on four different plasma screens - two within the bar and two on the outside, as well as League TV.
Gloria Jean's Cafe - Gloria Jean's Cafe offers 91 different types of coffee and a wide variety of cakes. It is located in two different places on the domestic arrivals and departures levels and is open 24 hours a day.
Cafe Crown - Cafe Crown offers a wide variety of alternatives and is situated on the international departures level.
Cafe Anatolia - Cafe Anatolia is located on the right hand side of the international arrivals level. Location-wise the cafe is clearly visible for incoming visitors and people meeting passengers making it an ideal place to sit while waiting. The cafe is a meeting point for passengers and their greeters and can serve 100 people simultaneously.
Ankara Cafe - Ankara Cafe is located on the domestic departures level to the immediate right of the check-in counters. The Ankara Cafe offers a wide variety of refreshments such as fresh flans, croissants, desserts and a varied selection of sandwiches. It is open 24 hours a day.
Cafe Vadi - Cafe Vadi also offers a wide variety of refreshments including fresh flan, croissants, desserts and sandwiches. It is located immediately after the passport checkpoint and is open 24 hours a day.
Kiosks are located close to the flight gates and offer sandwiches and cocktails. These kiosks are the last stop for food consumption before the boarding a flight. The kiosks are generally open for service during flight times and closed at other times.
A fully-equipped conference hall is located on the arrivals level for businessmen short on time. Passengers who need access to a meeting room quickly are able to use the 150 seat conference hall which is equipped with state-of-the-art IT and communications systems.
There are also the Hittite and Cappadocia Meeting Halls on the departures level which offer full technological facilities for 50 people. Is Bank Millennium Lounge is located in the exclusive area on the departures level above the passport checkpoint. The Millennium Lounge serves First and Business Class passengers travelling with British Airways, Azerbaijan Airways and Austrian Airways. The Millennium Lounge offers freshly prepared snacks, alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages, fresh fruits and a range of sandwiches, as well as internet access. Turkish Airlines operates a Lounge in the exclusive area on the international terminal departures mezzanine level in order to receive its passengers. Turkish Airlines also uses the CIP Lounge located outside the domestic terminal for its domestic passengers. The THY CIP Lounge, beautifully decorated with traditional Turkish tiles, offers its guests a relaxed environment prior to their flight. Business Class and Elite Card Holders can benefit from the THY Domestic and International CIP Lounges which are open from the time of the earliest to the latest flights. These lounges offer light snacks and tasty drinks prepared by BTA Catering Services, as well as amenities such as internet access, daily and monthly publications, Television, shower facilities, children's playrooms and meeting rooms. Wings PrimeClass Lounge is available to PrimeClass card holders by Akbank. Priority Pass card holders and guests of other contracted companies can benefit from the Wings PrimeClass Esenboğa Domestic CIP Lounge as well. Moreover, anybody wishing to benefit from the services of the Lounge can do so in return for a fee. This Lounge offers a range of services including wired and wireless internet, television, daily newspapers, weekly and monthly magazines, self-service snacks prepared by BTA Catering Services and massage armchairs. They are open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Health Services - Three separate institutions offer health services at Esenboğa Airport domestic and international terminals. - PortClinic is located in the international terminal on the arrivals level behind Garanti Bank. It has an intensive care unit fully equipped and a medical team (a doctor, an anesthesia technician, and driver trained to give first-aid). PortClinic service is available 24/7 in the domestic and international terminals. PortClinic is in charge of emergency cases via its ambulances and giving first response health care service with its experienced medical staff and the necessary equipment. Esenboğa Airport Health Monitoring Centre is located by the immigration desks in the offices numbered 801 - 815 on the international terminal arrivals level. The Esenboğa Airport Health Monitoring Centre offers immunizations to international passengers. Additionally it carries out public health checks on repatriated coffins. State Airports Administration Health Unit is located in The old terminal building. This center offers first aid in the event of accidents and fires on the apron as well as for passengers in aircraft not connected to boarding bridges. In addition to 24-hour medical services, including doctor, health assistants and ambulances. There is also a Pharmacy located on the Esenboğa Airport restaurant level.
The 4,069-space multi-story car park lies parallel to the domestic and international terminals. Main entrances and exits have been located to minimize congestion. There are four automatic ticket barriers on the main entrance to the car park, two on the Esenboğa side and two on the Ankara side. Three pay tills on the Ankara exit side are augmented with three automatic pay barriers, totalling six, while on the Esenboğa side, there are three exits in total, one with a pay till and two automatic barriers. Additional un-manned credit card pay points total six, three on domestic and three on international. Parking spots in the car park measure 2.5 x 4.5 meters and are ranged in parallel rows. Access to the terminal is via open air and enclosed passages. There are two open-air passages to the arrivals and departures levels while two enclosed bridges connect the car park to the mezzanine level. Passengers are able to benefit from subscription and promotions by presenting their car park ticket within an hour of entry to the 5th Floor Subscriptions Office in Block A.
The Esenboğa Airport Lost and Found Office is situated between the domestic and international sections on the arrivals level and attempts to locate items lost or found in the terminal or in the car park. The hours of the Lost and Found Office are every weekday from 10:00 - 22:00 and during off hours the service is provided by Terminal Operations Management. Charges are levied on a daily basis and are paid at time of collection. Passengers may choose to benefit from a 24 hour VALET Service instead of taking the time to park their own cars while in a hurry to catch a flight for only 15 TL plus the parking fee with insurance being included. Passengers are able to leave their cars at one of the following five drop points; In front of the domestic and international exit doors on the arrival floor, in front of the domestic and international entrance doors on the departure floor or in front of the Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge Building. Upon return passengers are able to pick their cars up at the point which they prefer.
